Reading with Moya Cannon and Thomas McCarthy
Moya Cannon is an Irish poet with five published collections; the most recent being Keats Lives (Carcanet Press, Manchester). The mountains, the sea and our primal and enduring responses to the beauty of the endangered earth are the inspiration for many of her poems. Archaeology and geology figure as gateways to a deeper understanding of our mysterious relationship with the natural world and our past.
Thomas McCarthy has published many collections of poetry, including The First Convention, The Sorrow Garden, Merchant Prince, The Last Geraldine Officer and Pandemonium. He has also published two novels entitled Without Power and Asya and Christine. He has published two works of non-fiction called Gardens of Remembrance and Out of the Ashes. He is a member of Aosdána, the Irish Assembly of artists. He has won the Patrick Kavanagh Award, the Alice Hunt Bartlett and O’Shaughnessy Prize for Poetry and the Ireland Funds Annual Literary Award. He was Editor of Poetry Ireland Review and The Cork Review. His new collection, PROPHECY, was published by Carcanet Press in April, 2019.
