Poetry with Tony Curtis
Music by Grace King, Roisin King and Meave O’Neill.
In the centenary year of Alcock and Brown’s non-stop transatlantic flight from Newfoundland to Connemara, we are delighted to welcome back an old friend of the festival, the poet Tony Curtis. Fittingly, Tony returns with a wonderful new publication from Occasional Press in collaboration with Ballynahinch Castle, This Flight Tonight: the story of Alcock & Brown.
In prose and poetry, the book tells a tale reminiscent of the ancient Greeks, of two weary men emerging from years of war, guided by the only gifts the war has given them: flight, navigation and the Vickers Vimy.
Curtis’s book is a unique rendering of Alcock and Brown’s lives; from their births in Manchester and Glasgow, their turbulent war experiences; their epic flight and what happened to them afterwards.
It is a book made for the people of Connemara and Newfoundland. So do come along and hear Tony read, talk and answer questions about Alcock and Brown: the A and B of aviation
