Elva MacGowan Ensemble
Elva hails from Youghal, Co.Cork. Although classically trained throughout college; she also fell in love with the folk, jazz, traditional and blues scene in Dublin where she’s been warmly welcomed into its renowned music scene. Elva’s performances are rooted in old-time traditions but with distinctly modern energy; creating fresh interpretations of country and folk songs with increasingly impressive results. Her shows promise warm acoustic guitar, full and rich double bass, elegant vocals and a charming improvisational mood.
Elva’s repertoire encompasses a diverse range and renditions of country and folk songs by her favourite singers/songwriters. Among them are Robert Johnson, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt, Patsy Cline, Connie Francis, Billie Holiday, Glen Campbell, Robert Burns and many more.
In 2016, Elva launched her debut EP Close Your Eyes’ in The National Concert Hall. She has since enjoyed frequent airplay on RTÉ Radio One, Raidió na Gaeltachta, Lyric FM, Dublin City FM and BBC Radio Ulster.
Elva has since blended her knowledge of vocal performance with her love of old-timey songs, folk, Americana, jazz, blues and traditional acoustic accompaniments.
